Customary Measurement System
About the Customary Measurement System Customary- The customary measurement system has 4 diferent kinds of measurement.
length, capacity, weight, and volume.
capacity
gallons, quarts, pints, and cups.
Length consists of inches, feet, miles, centimeters, yards, meters, etc. 12 inches equals 1 foot, 5280 feet equals 1 mile, 36 inches equals 1 yard, 2.54 centemeters per inch equal a foot also. When you measure yards 1 yard is 36 inches(3 feet). So if you measure something like 3 yards, you multiply 36 times 3, which equals 108 inches.
Weight consists of grams, pounds, tons, milligrams, kilograms, etc.
1000 milligrams= 1 gram, 2,000 ponds= 1 ton , 1,000 grams= 1 kilogram
Volume is measured in cubic units.
When volume of a cube is measured you have to use lwh, which means length times width times height. In the picture below you see the length, width and height are all 5. So to find the volume you multiply 5x5x5. Which means the volume is 125.
When volume of a cylinder is measured the formula is pi r squared.
When volume of a ball is measured the formula is 4/3 pi r cubed.
